The Roosevelt is off to the races with the annual mad46 Kentucky Derby Event sponsored by Woodford Reserve, this Saturday, May 7th. With midtown Manhattan’s very own grandstand seated atop the Grande Dame of New York, you can bask in the spirit of Louisville without ever leaving the city.
Once the doors open at 3:30 pm, all bets are off. Guests will be dressed to impress in traditional Derby attire as mad46 begets an atmosphere of southern hospitality within its rooftop walls. Every year the best dressed individuals are presented with their own awards, leading to some of the most elaborate and authentic derby attire north of the Mason Dixon. There are even awards for best the best hat!
Mingle and get your picture with the derby photographer or simply relax and watch the race unfold on one of several large screens positioned all over the rooftop, all while sipping a traditional Woodford Reserve Mint Julep, the official drink of the race. And, once the race concludes, extend your celebration into the night with a live DJ from 5:00 – 9:00 pm. Specialty cocktails are available throughout the event as well as specialty wines served by the glass or bottle. Mad46’s excellent chefs will also be dressing their food to the nines with a specialty menu just for the derby featuring bourbon glazed wings, fried green tomato BLT sliders, Kentucky dusted shrimp and Kansas City braised beef brisket sliders. Whether you’re familiar with the derby or a first time attendee, there’s no better venue to watch the running of the roses than with mad46.
As the races keep running, mad46 will continue to celebrate, so keep an eye out for updates and mark your calendar accordingly. The Preakness thunders into The Roosevelt on May 21st, with a celebration riding on its heels that’s not to be missed.
This season at mad46 is just getting started, and with a full list of upcoming events and specials, there’s no better time to experience New York from above. No matter where you’re from, now is the time to discover why life in the city is better on top.
