New York is amazing during this time of year. There’s so much to see and do throughout the season but we wanted to highlight some of the events and happenings that will be occurring this Christmas Day. So, if you can’t be home for the holidays or you’re just here visiting our amazing city, here are some fun things to do this Saturday on Christmas Day in New York.
WALK IN MIDTOWN
It’s one of the greatest places to get into the holiday spirit! Stop by to see the Rockefeller Center Tree and then hop over to Fifth Avenue to see the exquisite window displays decorated especially for this season. If you can get tickets, head over to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular to see one of America’s favorite holiday shows! There’s also the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Christmas Day mass, which is always a delight.
BREAK OUT THE BLADES
Grab those ice skates (or rent them) and hop onto the ice for a fun filled day that will also help you work off that Christmas Day dinner! Check out our favorite ice rinks here.
TAKE IN THE VIEW
it’s a beautiful city but when you appreciate it from above, it’s that much better! Take a trip to the Top of the Rock or head up to the Empire State Building and take in the full view of one of the greatest cities on earth!
ENJOY THE EXHIBITS
Not all museums are open on Christmas Day but you can stroll through the Jewish Museum, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Times Square, the King Tut exhibition or Ripley’s Believe It or Not Odditorium.
HEAD TO BROADWAY
I have to be honest, Broadway shows on Christmas Day is a real blast. Plan ahead for tickets or hit up the TKTS booth and take in a great show. Check out current shows on Broadway here, but I recommend something fun for the whole family like “Elf”!
CHINESE AND A MOVIE
Ahh, the Chinese and a movie tradition. If that’s your thing, then head over to the 92nd Street Y in Tribeca and enjoy an all you can eat Chinese Buffet and the hysterical double feature of Airplane and The Naked Gun. Just want to take in a movie; here is a list of theaters in the city.
The Bronx Zoo is NOT open on Christmas Day but you can head over to some of the other zoos in the city. The New York Aquarium, The Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo and Queens Zoos are all open on Christmas Day!
STROLL THE PARKS
It may be a little chilly out but it’s worth bundling up and experiencing the beauty of NYC’s parks. Head to the famous Central Park and grab a hot chocolate at The Boathouse or visit Bryant Park and do some holiday shopping for yourself at the Holiday Shops at Bryant Park.
If you’re looking to get out of the house this Christmas there is plenty to do. Don’t want to cook either? There’s a ton of restaurants in the city that would be happy to serve you. Click here for Restaurants open Christmas Day or come visit us at The Roosevelt Hotel’s Roosevelt Grill for our yummy Christmas Buffet!
We wish all of you a happy and safe holiday!!
