Do it for Mom.

PHOTO:  Me and my first born.

This will be an emotional Mothers Day for me. Not only because I’m still amazed every day by my first daughter, but because I am now pregnant with my second.  Becoming a mother has been one of the most inspiring happenings in my life and I am so proud to be a part of the “mommy club”. I look forward to years of crayon colored cards, sloppy breakfasts in bed and construction paper flowers. Those are the times moms live for.

Raising a family in New York City is so perfectly ideal for special occasions such as Mother Day. Here are a few things that you can do this Sunday to celebrate the woman who has raised you and loved you since forever ago.

Cirque de Soliel
I can’t say enough good things about this show! If you haven’t seen it before, it’s an absolute must. Check out these great offers in honor of Mothers day!  Click here to see the packages and to purchase tickets.

Brunch, Lunch, Dinner or Cocktails
Most of our mothers have waited on us hand and foot for most of our lives. Treat Mom to a nice meal, and do it at a discount (Mom would be proud!). Here is a complete list of Mothers Day Specials on OpenTable!

Ferry Ride Around Manhattan
If you are a New York native, then chances are you haven’t seen ALL the sites. My mother has lived in Brooklyn for over 50 years and has NEVER taken a ferry ride around Manhattan. This is what I’ll be doing with my Mom this weekend.  See here for tour info!

Get Pampered
Mothers deserved to be pampered more than once a year, but on this special day, take mom to one of the top spas in this city. Check out this list of our favorite spas.

Shop, Shop and Shop
New York is looking at some beautiful weather this weekend. Perfect shopping weather! This city is the mecca for shopping. Here are the best shopping areas in the city for those “shopaholic” moms.

Love and Marriage at The Roosevelt Hotel circa 1955

PHOTO: Ruth and Herbert at The Roosevelt Hotel New York in 1955.

In the summer of 1955, love found its way to The Roosevelt Hotel New York. Married in our Terrace Ballroom in July of 1955, Ruth and Herbert made memories in the celebration of their love and unity by taking the leap into marriage.

It wasnt until their 45th wedding anniversary in July of 2000 that Ruth and Herbert made their way back to The Roosevelt Hotel and we were beyond happy to have them back with us!  It was just for a weekend getaway, but this happy couple rekindled in the Big Apple and even got to see a Broadway show!

They came back to us for the big 50th anniversary and we are now looking forward to having Ruth and Herbert stay with us once again for their 55th anniversary!

Congratulations Rith and Herbert on your upcoming anniversary!  We are proud to consider you part of The Roosevet Hotel family!

Best Places to Bike in NYC

Bike Month NYC is the annual celebration of bicycling in New York City. Each year the Department of Transportation and Transportation Alternatives team up to bring you Bike Month NYC, a city wide campaign to promote the joys of cycling in New York City.

In honor of Bike Month, I thought I would list some of my favorite places to bike here in the city!

Love this ride! It’s one of my favorite views on the Big Apple. When on the Brooklyn side, be sure to stop in at Grimaldi’s Pizza for the PERFECT slice. Take a moment to hop off your two wheels and take in the amazing views of Lower Manhattan, Governors Island, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty.

Manhattan Entrance: Enter at Park Row and Centre Street, across from City Hall Park, east of City Hall. Be sure to stay on the pedestrian side (south side). Subway: 4/5/6 to Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall or J/M/Z to Chambers St.

Brooklyn entrance: Enter the stairs on Cadman Plaza East and Prospect Street or a ramp entrance on Johnson and Adams Streets. Trains: A train to High Street

Check out this video of the ride by @nycbikemaps

This is my neighborhood and a favorite ride for yours truly. Manhattan gets all the buzz, but being born and raised in good ol’ BK, I have to tell you that we have a ton to offer on this side of the river! Here is a simple ride with gorgeous views of the Verrazano-Narrows bridge. Start the day with a picnic at Owl’s Head Park and stay along the Shore Road bike path as seen on this bike map!

Nothing says New York like a bike ride through one of the greatest parks in the world, Central Park! Rent a bike from the kiosk at The Boathouse New York and begin to explore all that this NYC oasis has to offer. Ig you want to take the guided route, check out Central Park Bike Tours and let a professional show you the ins and outs of the park.
