New York City Fleet Week 2009

Hello Sailors!!

It’s the time of year again when thousands of servicemen and women from the US Marine Corps, Navy and Coast Guard arrive at the New York Harbor for New York City Fleet Week 2009.

A tradition since 1984, we have welcomed active military ships and their crews to our city for a few days of fun. From May 20-26th, you can enjoy some events like military demonstrations, musical performances or take a tour of these ships they call home. The best part…these guys get to spend a day or two enjoying the Big Apple.

So if your walking down Fifth Avenue or having a cocktail at mad46 and you spot one of these fine men and women of the U.S. Naval Services, be sure to tip your hat and give them a warm welcome.

Moscow Mule at mad46

It’s MOSCOW MULE NIGHT at mad46 this Wednesday, May 20th!

From 5:00-7:00pm, come to the 19th floor of The Roosevelt Hotel’s  and stop by the Kremlin Ice Bar for one free sample of Russian Standard Vodkas Moscow Mule, served by the Russian Standard models!

The Moscow Mule will be available in a specialty copper mug for $10 each all night at the bar.

What’s a Moscow Mule you ask?  It’s a delicious cocktail that uses ginger beer, which is non-alcoholic “root beer” that has a sweet taste and can be found at most organic grocers.

· 1 3/4 oz vodka
· 1/2 oz lime juice
· Ginger beer
· Lime wedge for garnish

Pour the vodka and lime juice into a highball glass with ice cubes and top it off with the ginger beer. Garnish with the lime wedge.

Sounds good right?

John Lennon: The New York Years

John Lennon was a classic New Yorker. His music, activism and “anything goes” attitude embodied the New York spirit and it was no secret that he adored this city.

On May 12th, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Annex NYC, located in SoHo, opened its new feature exhibit, JOHN LENNON: THE NEW YORK CITY YEARS. The exhibit explores John Lennon’s passion for music, art, politics and film, with New York City as his backdrop. In a stark white room, the exhibit is set up to mimic the backdrop of the “Imagine” video and includes rare objects from Lennon’s life, including original hand written lyrics, the famed “New York City” t-shirt and some other items that Yoko Ono pulled from her personal stash.

For fans (like myself), seeing this exhibit is an absolute must. And a little tip..if you hear a phone ringing, answer it.  Yoko Ono will call in every once in awhile to chat with a museum goer.   How cool is that!

In Lennon style, there are also efforts within the exhibit to promote change.  In the area of the exhibit devoted to his death theres a petition for stronger gun control laws that will be sent to President Obama after the exhibit closes. And for every ticket purchased, a portion of the cost will be donated to Spirit Foundations, a charitable foundation set up by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

For tickets call (866) 9-ROCKNY or visit www.rockannex.com.
