With all the hustle and bustle in this big city of ours, we hardly ever have the chance to make sunset-watching a priority. Well, I suggest we all pencil in some sunset watching time this weekend for Manhattanhenge. It only happens twice a year and may very well be one of the coolest sunsets you’ll see in your lifetime.
Manhattanhenge is when the sun is in exact alignment with the cross-town streets of Manhattan. It’s a truly gorgeous sight that should not be missed.
The best place to watch is anywhere on the east side of the Manhattan, looking towards the west. Some of the least obstructed cross streets with the best views include 14th, 23rd, 34th. 42nd and 57th. I suggest finding a good spot at least a half an hour early because places tend to get crowded. The sun will set at approximately 8:17pm on Sunday, May 31st.
Be sure to have your camera ready because we would love to see your best shot! Here are some tips on How to Take Great Photographs of Sunsets.
